Why I Wrote This Book
Writing Trilbi Small: Desperate was more than a creative project; it was a release, a reflection, and a bold reclaiming of my voice. I created Trilbi during a time when I needed a reminder that women, especially Black women, can be strong, soft, strategic, and unapologetically authentic all at once.
Trilbi’s story was born out of experiences I’ve witnessed, conversations I’ve had, and truths I’ve lived. I wanted a character who didn’t always have it all together but kept showing up anyway. A woman who could win in court and still wrestle with matters of the heart. A woman with flaws, fire, and fierce loyalty.
This book is for every woman who’s had to balance heartbreak with ambition…who’s leaned on her sister-friends to make it through...who’s ever felt overlooked but still chose to rise.
It’s fiction, but it’s real. And I hope you see yourself in Trilbi, just like I do.
